The “Overeseas Boys & Girls Hinokishin Corps” (commonly known as Kaigai-Shohi) was spiritedly held this year once again in line with “Children’s Pilgrimage to Jiba” that is held in Jiba from late July to early August every year. Kaigai-Shohi is a program to nurture junior high school students in the path between 13 to 15 years of age, held in Jiba from 25th to 30th July every year, with a hope that “they can savour the joy of sowing seeds of sincerity at Jiba by engaging in hinokishin for Children’s Pilgrimage to Jiba as a member of Kaigai-Shohi and making their utmost to learn the teachings as well as the hand dance and musical instruments, and then become a core member at their respective church in the future”.
Kaigai-Shohi this year was attended by 97 members from nine different countries and regions including Australia, USA, Canada, UK, Hawaii, Brazil, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and all the participants shared a great time in Jiba. The three members who joined the event from Australia this time were: Miss Yuri Adachi (Kawaramachi/Tanshutsu) from Brisbane, Mr. Katsuyoshi Suzuki and Mr. William Crooks (Tono/Tono Sydney). In addition, Mr. Yoshiharu Adachi (Kawa-ramachi/Tanshutsu) who has been working for the Overseas Department joined the event as a counsellor once again.
During the period, staying at Moya 38, they experienced an unforgettable summer in Jiba by actively engaging in tea-serving hinokishin, practicing the hand dance and musical instruments, taking part in some events of Children’s Pilgrimage to Jiba, and appearing in the Oyasato Parade, together with other members from the different places in the world. Then they all safely returned to Australia on 2nd August, having made a lot of new friends, and bringing back uncountable memories as well as a precious souvenir in their mind from Jiba.
