On 29th April, this year’s “Tenrikyo Hino-kishin Day” was observed all over the world as well as in Japan, and a great number of fellow followers of the path devoted themselves to engage in hinokishin in unity of mind.

Hinokishin Day in the Oceania region started in Auckland, New Zealand on 14th May, followed in three other venues in the region in the month of May: on 15th in Brisbane, on 22nd in Sydney and on 29th in the Gold Coast respectively. A total of 81 people gathered together in the four venues engaging in hinokishin activities in unison by using their body, that is, a thing borrowed from God the Parent. Please see the details in the chart below.

In the Auckland Dis-trict in New Zealand, Hinokishin Day was held immediately after the May monthly service of the Tasman Fellowship for the first time, unlike the previous years. Under beautiful blue skies, 11 people participated in unison in cleaning and picking up rubbish on the streets in the neibourhood of the fellowship located in the Royal Oak subrub. After hinokishin, all of them enjoyed the BBQ lunch together.

On the following day, 15th, Hinokishin Day in the Brisbane District, was splendidly held immediately after the May Monthly Service of the Oceania Centre as it has been over the previous years. Blessed with fine autumn weather, 33 people, most of whom were the service attendees, participated in unity of mind in cleaning and picking up rubbish on the streets, in the park and around the shopping centre near the Centre. After hinokishin, all of them had a good time by enjoying the post-service lunch together which satisfied their hunger in a cozy atmosphere.

On the following weekend, 22nd, Hinokishin Day was conducted in Sydney under refreshing autumn fine skies. 16 followers got together to engage in hinokishin in high spirits by cleaning and picking up rubbish on the streets, in the railway station and the oval near Tenrikyo Tono Sydney Fellowship as in the previous years. This became a good opportunity for sprinkling the fragrance of the teachings to the local community.

On the last Sunday in May, Hinokishin Day in the Gold Coast was also held with the blessing of the pleasant weather with warm sunshine, and 21 participants in total including those from Brisbane, assembled to engage in hinokishin by picking up rubbish and cleaning in Hollindale Park and the beach nearby in high spirits. After hinokishin, all the participants enjoyed a BBQ lunch in the park together.

In his message at this year’s Hinokishin Day, Rev. Yoshitaro Ueda, Direcoter-in-Chief of Administrative Affairs, said: “At a time when interpersonal rela-tionships are becoming increasingly weak in our so-called ‘alienated society’, I believe that the acts of hinokishin that followers in the same area perform together in unity of mind will go a long way toward showing the local community how wonderful this path is”. Each and everyone of us, Yoboku and followers living in this diocese, would like to make further efforts to engage in hinokishin not only at the annual Hinokishin Day, but also in our everyday live so that we can inspire the people around us, and thereby widen the circle of the joyous life to the local community.
