Fund-raising Drive for Sufferers from QLD Floods
Due to the intense rainfalls that had continued from a few days before Christmas last year until the middle of January, Queensland suffered from catastrophic floods throughout the State to such an extent that three quarters of the whole State was flooded. This QLD Great Flood caused severe damage, in particular to such inland areas as Chinchilla and Condamine as well as to the coastal cities of the Pacific Ocean of Rockhampton and Bundaberg. Furthermore, Toowoomba, located 100km west of Brisbane, was hit on 10th January by concentrated heavy rainfall of 200 millimetres per hour which triggered flash floods, and brought severe damage including many deaths. On top of that, muddy flows that had caused catastrophic damage upstream hit Ipswich and Brisbane, including the CBD, directly, and wreaked tremendous damage to roads and infrastructure as well as flooding over 27,000 houses and 5,000 business establishments.
Fortunately, there was little direct damage to fellowships and followers’ houses as well as to the Oceania Centre. Taking this situation seriously, however, the Oceania Centre immediately decided to raise funds for those suffering from the disaster, starting with the “TOC Summer Festival” on 14th of January, as well as announcing to donate all the proceeds from the Festival for this purpose. On top of that, setting two collection boxes in the Centre, we appealed for the relief fund through the various activities of the Centre such as the monthly services and continued the drive until the end of February.
On 1st March, we sent the funds collected to the “Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal” of the Queensland Government as an end to the drive.
In response to our appeal for relief funds from 14th January until the end of February to support sufferers from the ‘QLD Great Floods’ this time, many people in the Oceania region provided us with war support and cooperation to send the funds. We apprecieate your sincere cooperation from the bottom of our hearts.
the relief funds collected was donated to the ‘Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal’ on 1st March.
As taught, ‘All human beings are brothers and sisters’, we would like to always settle the teaching of ‘World Salvation’ in mind and implement the ‘salvation of others’ by starting from what we can do. Thank you very much.
