On 11th March, a massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of the Tohoku area in Japan, and the resulting giant tsunami waves struck the coastal areas, all of which have brought an unprecedented catastrophe to Japan. As of 25th March, just 2 weeks after the occurrence of the earthquake and tsunami, over 10,000 people have been killed, over 17,000 have been missing, and over 250,000 people have been forced to stay in evacuation centres.

On this occasion, we, Tenrikyo Oceania Centre, have decided to raise relief funds in order to support sufferers from the disaster even a little, and have asked Tenrikyo church, fellowships, Yoboku and followers living in the region for their support and cooperation. At the Centre, we have set up collection boxes. On top of that, we have appealed for relief funds on various occasions including the “Joyous Life Lecture” which was held in six venues in the diocese starting from 9th March until 20th.

We hope as many of you as possible will provide the sufferers with your warm support and cooperation. For those who would like to offer donations, it would be very appreciated if you could bring it with you directly to our Centre or send by mail a bank cheque payable to “Tenrikyo Oceania Centre”, at 179 Benhiam Street, Calamvale, QLD. 4116 Australia.

All donations collected will be forwarded directly to “Tenrikyo Disaster Relief Fund” held by Tenrikyo Doyusha located in Tenri city, Japan, and distributed to the various disaster relief areas that are in need.
